The iPhone users must be aware that when they buy an iPhone, their iPhone 3G is tied up to a local Telecom provider by Apple. But if the iPhone 3G is purchased through the Hong Kong Online Apple Store, then you do officially and legally get an unlocked iphone which can be used by you with any operator.

The 8GB (white) is available for $5400 ($692 USD) while the 16GB iPhone (black and white) is available for $6200 ($794 USD). It is further stated that it “can be activated with any provider“. But as it an officially unlocked version the prices are really high.

Currently the HongKong mobile users can select the operator of their choice and need not be tied up with any official partner Telecom carriers. There is no longer any requirement of visiting the gray market for purchasing the illegally jail broken unlocked iPhones.

Giving the mobile users the option to select the service provider of their own choice will definitely boost the sales of the iPhone. This is certainly a good step by Apple. But the prices makes many people to think about it!!

ITV Planning to Bring “Friends Reunited” to Apple iPhone

Good news for Apple iPhone users, next year you will see two new; rather say great applications. The two applications are the popular “Friends Reunited” and a “Spin-Off Dating Service” site, which will be launched by ITV on the Apple iPhone.

According to Melissa Goodwin, controller of mobile for ITV “Research has stated that 67 percent of iPhone users are men. It was further added by her that the services that include sports and things like the latest football scores would be focused by the application”. The application will focus on Videos, Music, Wallpapers, Clips and Simulcasts.

ITV’s Goodwin further added that “It’s about choice and convenience for the consumer,” and that all sorts of touch points for the iPhone such as simulcasts, wallpapers and video are been tried out. To try all different formats and learn what works best for the content and brand is the strategy of the broadcaster.

Apple iPhone – “Could not activate cellular data network”

Last week when I updated my Apple iPhone 3G with the new firmware updated version 2.0.2 released recently. As usual the iPhone worked perfectly normal after this upgrade, but surprisingly today morning when I tried to check my mails on the phone it started giving following error “Could not activate cellular data network” which I expected to be related to service provider and blamed them but later something else actually happened. I tried restarting the iPhone for several times but it didn’t work at all for a long time after a series of attempts.


I really got fed up and I tried calling AirTel customer care, but they suggested me to call Apple Care India(1800-425-0744) which is toll free and I expected some good support from them. When I called Apple Care people for help, they guided me to the following URL to have a look at support information on iPhone: http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/in/. So again with a hope to fix it I tried opening the web page but the above link disappointed me by giving “Page Not Found” error( Apple are you Listening? sorry Reading?).

None of the above information or support helped me to resolve this issue, then I came back to home and started searching for this problem on Google(Yes I believe in Google) expecting some useful information. Fortunately I found some useful information which gave me some relief after all the attempts.

I had resolved this issue very easily by following these steps(twice):

Go to: Menu > Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Once you Reset the network settings, iPhone3G got restarted and then above issue got resolved related to cellular network and now it was working fine. Thank God(Should I say Thank you Google?).

Rumour ! – Apple Iphone 32 GB and Home Activation Option.

Boy oh Boy…It never stops with Apple does it.First the phenomenal release of IPOD nano then a more advanced 8GB version of IPOD nano and now the new talk of the town.Apple Iphone 32 gb. You heard it right boys and girls.Apple has this new gadget just under their sleeve.However what is more intresting then the model itself is Apple’s scheme of a home activation(unlocking) proposal meaning having an apple phone without a contract.

The home-activation feature basically allows an iPhone user to activate his/her contract through iTunes without need of any authentication at the Apple Store. This was a fast process compared to the current In-Store activation method but was discontinued by Apple for some reasons.

The other option that most users are looking forward to is the ability to purchase unlocked and contract-free iPhone models to be used with carriers and in countries where the iPhone is not yet officially available.

Since the slow down in sales as featured at Appleinsider Apple might just be doing anything it can to jazz up its sales chart.As the title suggests its maybe a rumour but we have seen Jobs follow this pattern with IPOD so no surprise if it is true.
